5 Habits of Super Confident Speakers | Public Speaking Course in Bangalore

After training thousands of speakers and having after 2,100 appearances on different (small and large) stages, I have come to understand a few habits that make speakers confident.

Just so you know, I was not a born confident speaker.

One of the videos I have shared with my fiancé is my video from one of my earlier speeches in my career. Those speeches were HORRIBLE. I will not share them with you. : - )

Fast forward everything till today.

Today when I get invited to be a keynote speaker at top companies, colleges, international radio shows, I am humbled. Because I understand that with the right plan, you get improve faster than most.

So, here are 5 habits I have found that Super-Confident Speakers have:

1. Constant Positive Self-Talk: I am big on this. When I coach my on-on-one clients, I help them create their customized affirmations based on the goals they are headed toward achieving. Same with speakers. As a speaker or presenter, you have to constantly flood your mind with positive self-talk. Self-talk like: “Public Speaking comes very easy to me,” “Whenever I speak, I add value to my listeners.

In fact, if you send me an email to Bishal@BishalSarkar.com with the subject headline: “I read you blog, and want my copy of your best public speaking affirmations”--- I will send you a sheet where you can “copy paste” MY OWN top 9 presentation skills affirmations I use to become more confident every day.

Whatever you do, keep your mind positive throughout the day with affirmations and confident self-talk regarding public speaking.

2. Regular Rehearsal: Practice NEVER makes a man perfect. Practice makes a man improved. As a speaker, I have a ritual of practicing my speeches and presentations every day.

Just like you, I am a busy man. And probably I have delivered more presentations that you in my life.

But I understand that success is NOT owned. It’s rented and the rent is due every day. So, to keep up my momentum and increase my effectiveness, I (just like any great speaker) do regular rehearsals.

3. Belong to a Mastermind: My friend Les Brown has a famous line: “If you are the smartest person in the group, you need a new group.

As a speaker if you are the best speaker in your group, you need a new group to hang out with. Why? Because you always want to be in a place where people challenge you to become better. Joining a group training program or mastermind group increases your confidence as a speaker and that also opens doors to new techniques of presentation skills mastery.

4. You Are Always “Auditioning”: One of my personal coaches once told me: “Bishal. Shakespeare said that life is a stage. That’s true. And that’s why you are always auditioning.”

How true! You are not only practicing when you have practicing at home. You are also auditioning when you are on a phone call, or when you are narrating a story to your boss. See every speaking opportunity as an audition and that helps you become a confident speaker. Successful speakers are always auditioning. Are you?

5. Personal Coach or Mentor: Every great speaker has a coach. They always partner with a coach or a mentor that they respect so that the mentor can give them feedback, advice and ongoing coaching on what to improve, and how to improve. Currently I have 7 different coachers in different areas and I happily invest my time, money and energy to improve myself. Do you?

Excellent speakers don’t become EXCELLENT by accident. They become EXCELLENT by choice. It’s a habit. Without a successful mentor who has a proven track record, you can’t be a super successful speaker.

Who is your coach? How often do you communicate with your mentor and ask for feedback?

Here's my take on CONFIDENCE:
