How to Manage When You Forget Your Point in the Middle of Your Presentation

Do you forget your points, in the middle of your presentation?

How often?

What most people know about me is that I am a professional speaker and I motivate people all around the country. What most people don’t know about me is that I have a tendency to follow my own presentation in the middle. It’s embarrassing and really scary as well.

Last time it happened to me was when I was speaking to a group of HDFC Gold Loan Professionals. I was teaching them about attitude needed for going out there and making it happen. I was taking them through a 5-step process for developing a winning attitude needed to make it big in business.

After the 2nd point, I was blank.

I mean, complete blank.

They looked at me expecting my next point, and I was dumbstruck.

15 minutes down the line we finished the training for the day and I was given a standing ovation. They loved it.

Now, you may be thinking: “But how? You forgot your point. How did you manage?”

Well, that’s exactly what I am going to show you.

I teach all of that at my Famous Course “Present Like A Champ BootCamp”. For time limitation, let me give you a few quick tips, and if you want more, call my office and we will be happy to give you all of them.

When you forget a point, you can do any of the following:

  • Start talking about Why You Believe So Intensely In Your Topic
  • Go right into an activity (Video)
  • Ask a rhetorical question
  • Ask an engaging question
  • Do what I call “Discuss and Share” technique. Ask your audience members to discuss (for 30 to 90 seconds) about what they have learnt from what you have said in last few minutes, and then ask them to say it out loud (while in the mean time you get back on your thinking track wink )
  • Use one of your impromptu speaking techniques and rock the floor

This is what I did in front of those HDFC people and I continue to do so, and I continue getting standing ovations and repeat businesses.

An amateur will forget his point and make it obvious to them.

A Champion Presenter may forget his point but he will immediately get a technique from his arsenal of quickie punch and look like a SEASONED PRO.

Which one are you?
