VALUE Your WORDS! Please!

Do you value your words 100%, all the time?

I know that sometimes I don't do it (even if I want to). Let me explain.

Last week I was speaking to a Software Professional who wanted to join one of the Public Speaking Courses we offer in Bangalore. The person spoke to us multiple times, even got me on phone with him, and then said he would sign up the next day. Two weeks passed by and he didn’t take actions. When we follow up with him, his answer was: “I will do it after 1 year.” When my assistant asked him: “But you said you need it immediately, what happened suddenly Gagan?” He said: “No, I don’t want to tell anything else. I don’t want now. I will talk later.”

Really?

This guy “stole” some of our training materials, and then did bad behaviour.

That’s not cool.

I thought: “Why do people not keep their words sometimes?”

I mean, if one can’t keep their word, they need to make it clear upfront.

Friend, honestly, even I don’t keep my words sometimes. Last evening I was supposed to call a friend at 6:00 PM, but just I forgot. I didn’t keep my words.

I just called him today and apologized and took the conversation forward.

The difference between that Software Professional and me is that he didn’t apologize, and I did.

And I know that after I apologized, I won’t make the same mistake twice. I am getting there- where I value my words 100%. I am working on myself.

Hey, what about you?

Do you keep your words?

Do you do what you said you would do?

Do you go to meetings, appointments ON TIME?

Or are you always 3 minutes late?

Do you give your children the chocolate that you promised? Or do you say: “I forgot, I will bring the chocolate tomorrow?”

Look, we are humans. So sometimes we do make mistakes. So, next time you don’t keep your words, even by 1%, APOLOGIZE. It takes a real man & woman to apologize and never repeat the mistake.
