Presentations are a key component of a successful career & life. Delivering them effectively is essential to your success as an expert in your field but it’s not always easy to deliver the right kinds of presentations that will make you stand out.
So here are nine quick tips to keep in mind.
Your presentations should be…
1. RELEVANT– First and foremost, it should be relevant to the audience you are speaking to. Sound like common sense? It is but many people overlook this very simple thing when crafting their presentations. If it doesn’t match in some way to message in the presentation, people will be confused and possibly even angered. No one likes to be tricked. It’s that simple.
2. INFORMATIVE- It should be clear to the audience what the presentations is about because you’ve given them the gist of it in your first 1 minute.
3. HONEST- Liars never prosper.
4. LEADERSHIP MINDED- What I mean by this is that each time you craft an presentations, think about how your audience is going to be viewing it. If not all people engaged, they won’t be listening to you for a long time.
5. BRIEF- This ties into being leadership minded but it’s worth mentioning as a separate tip because I’ve found over the years that the more concise my presentations are, the better result.
6. URGENT- The more urgent it appears, the better. This is especially true if you are an expert in your field. Creating a sense of urgency motivates people to take action now.
7. INTRIGUING- Get people interested by giving them some information but not all. The trick is to tease them into listening to you. Give them a taste but not the whole piece of cake. As a result, they ask you VERY much engaging questions during Q&A session and that makes you look like the stud you are.
8. AUDIENCE CONSCIOUS- Successful speakers know that their main purpose in presentations is to help someone either by providing information or a insight that will be beneficial to them. It should reflect that you are thinking of the audience first, giving them relevant and helpful information.
9. CONFIDENTLY DELIVERED- If confidence is missing, don’t bother going to the presentations. Stay at home and watch TV.
With these tips in mind as you create an artfully crafted presentations, you’ll soon get a good feel of how to create the best, most effective blurbs to entice your people into following you for life.
