“Bishal how do I express my ideas in an IMPACTFUL way?”
“Mr. Sarkar I have 22 years of work experience, but I am not able to express myself in a comfortable manner in front of groups. I know what to say, but I don’t get the right words at the right time.”
“Bishal, I have been reading about you and I’ve been watching your videos, so I am emailing you. It seems like I am reading books to gather better words and build my vocabulary, but I am missing something, can you help me?”
As you may have guessed by now….
These are some of the questions I get via email every week.
One of the most common areas where professionals struggle is they, in spite of being AMAZINGLY knowledgeable, fail to use the right words at the right time.
And then they take the WRONG ACTION.
And the wrong action is: STUDYING DICTIONARY to build vocabulary.
Some people have told you & me that by studying dictionary and by collecting 5 new words a day, we create great vocabulary stock.
And you know what? I believed them too in the past.
I did the “dictionary stuff.” I used to open my dictionary and learned 5 new words every day, and I underlined each word…..UNTIL I realized that it was a bad idea, an IMPRACTICAL idea to build vocabulary.
It was a theoretical idea. Not a practical one.
Look, you’re a mature person.
You’re not a kid.
If you’re a kid, studying dictionary makes sense to learn basic words.
Most people have a misconception, they think: “If I use hard, irregular words, people will think I am confident.”
HAHAHA.
Nothing can be further from the truth.
Using unusual & hard words doesn’t make you sound confident, it makes you sound CONFUSING.
It’s NOT about using HARD words. It’s about using RIGHT WORDS.
And there’s a 5-STEP FORMULA I have figured out that helps ANYONE build a ROCKING vocabulary (without EVER having to read boring dictionary).
More on that later.
For today, just realize the fact that dictionary is for understanding meaning for new words. It’s NOT for getting right words to use to IMPACT PEOPLE.
I recommend you not to be one of those people that depend on dictionaries to build vocabulary.
So, what’s your biggest challenge with vocabulary?
