How to Get People to Trust You EASILY?

Wouldn’t life be a lot easier if everyone (I mean EVERYONE) trusted you IMMEDIATELY?

Well.

Before trust is given, it’s earned first.

I have learnt from one of my mentors Jason that there are two steps toward earning trust.

1. Making a promise
2. Fulfilling that promise

Most people get the first step right.

And fail at the second one.

Let me give an example of what I mean.

It’s very easy for a manager to say:

“Sathish. Don’t worry. Just finish this project by working extra this weekend, and I’ll pass some good word about you to the boss.”

But when the manager “forgets” to pass that good word, he loses the trust of Sathish.

Look around.

It’s happening all the time in life.

A husband makes a promise to come back early and fails. Trust broken.

A wife promises to treat the husband with respect and fails. Trust broken.

A service provider makes a promise to return the client’s call on time, and then the service provider doesn’t respond on time. Trust broken.

A client promises to pay on time, and he doesn’t even bother to inform about being late in making payments. Trust broken.

It’s happening all the time.

It’s easy to make the promise.

To EARN the trust, you must FULFILL that promise.

If I go on a road and ask 10 random people “Do you keep your promises?” most people will answer: “Of course I do.”

Hah!

Reality is that most people think they are fulfilling their promises, but most of them are not doing it in the real life.

What about you?

Are you fulfilling your promises you’re making to your wife, your children, your clients, your managers, your friends?

If not, start doing it. Start today.

When I make a promise to bring something for my family members, I do it. Trust EARNED.

When I make a promise to call a client at a particular time, I do it. Trust EARNED.

When I make a promise to go for a morning walk with my morning walk buddy, I do it. Trust EARNED.

Now, am I saying I am perfect?

Absolutely NOT.

I am human, just like you.

I make mistakes, just like you.

I have faults, just like you.

What makes us different than average people is that we’re on the constant path of improvement.

That’s how you EARN the trust of others in your life.

So, here are 2 questions for you:

What is the last (small or big) promise you made to someone today?

How soon will you fulfil it?

Before trust is given, it’s earned first.
