Hey, did you know that 95% of your communication is non-verbal?
You know what that means? That means, majority portion of your current presentation skills is non-verbal, like: Body Language, Facial Expressions, Gestures etc. People who are powerful as communicators and presenters are the ones that invest their time in improving their Body Language. Like it or not, poor body language leads to poor impression. How well is your Body Language?
Here are quick 6 tips to improve your body language immediately:
1.Have open gestures. I recently had an individual speech coaching session with a Chartered Accountant who had terrible stage fear and always put his hands inside his pockets. He had a tendency to fold his arms. Well, those are symptoms of closed gestures. We worked together on this gentleman’s presentation and at the end of our session, this man was feeling free, was confident as a presenter and learnt how to use open gestures by using gestures freely instead of putting their hands inside pocket
2. Avoid having any physical barrier between you and your audience. It destroys the connection between you & your audience. For example, if you have a big wide wooden lectern in front of you while delivering presentation, your audience will sense lack of confidence in you. They will, subconsciously, assume that you’re don’t “believe” in your message, or the idea you’re sending
3. Look them in their eyes, as you would look at your new date. Be stunningly confident in doing so. I call it “Eye Connection”. I feel that everyone can make an “Eye Contact” but not everyone is trained to make “Eye Connection”. Let no one feel you’re not talking to them. Everyone should feel as important as the prime minister of your country…ar least close to that
4. Snip your fingers before delivering a powerful line/statistic/quotation. It grabs their attention
5. Smile. Smile. Smile. Many of the presenters I coach get shocked when I coach them on having an authentic smile on their face while delivering a technical presentation. Why is that important? Well, if you lack smile, it tells the audience that you’re too serious and have no sense of “connection”. Don’t you like people who smile? Why not doing that on stage?
I hope this post adds value to you and helps you “deliver” a better presentation. If you need further help, feel free to comment and I will answer as soon as I can.
