What I Taught a Client about How to Become a Motivational Speaker

Today evening I was working with a coaching member of mine who is a certified life coach and now he wants to become a professional motivational speaker- and sought my help and signed for coaching with me. Today, we spent the entire hour talking about different tactics about how to become a motivational speaker. One thing I love about coaching aspiring speakers is that they invest in themselves. It was Randy Gage who said that if you don’t invest in your own self, none else will invest in you. What kind of investment have you made in yourself and your dream in last 24 hours?

Anyways, I was teaching this person, and one thing which he said “changed” his mind was something that I taught him about finding the right market. Let me explain.

I sometimes get amazed and also laugh (in my own way) when I hear new speakers say: “I want to deliver speeches in front of everyone. The whole world is my market.” When I laugh, I get reminded of the fact that even I thought that way in the beginning of my career (and no wonder I was not successful). That was a major mistake I committed.

I rectified my mistake by choosing who I was going to speak for, train and market to.

There is an old saying that: “Your niche will make you rich.”

My friend, as a professional speaker you have to pick your niche. A niche is a specific market that you choose where you would market yourself and build your unique brand, and establish yourself as an authority so that you can become a successful motivational speaker, trainer, coach, and consultant. If the whole world is your target market, you would have a hard time for a long time.

Today, pick your niche. Pick your exact specific market (whether convent college, or maybe insurance companies etc) where you will serve the people the most.

I am happy that the coaching member was extremely happy after learning this (and 17 other lessons) and he is all set to apply it and make it big?
