Be More Influential in Your Company and Make More Money

Recently I was coaching an IT professional via Skype. One of the most brilliant questions this gentleman asked me was: “Bishal how do I grow my influence within my organization?”

Well, this definitely was a brilliant question and a question that people ask me all the time after my speeches and training sessions at conferences.

One of the things I have learnt from Dr. Robert Cialdini’s book “Influence” is: The more you give, the more comes back to you.

Dr. Cialdini calls it the law of reciprocation. It simply means that when you go beyond your way and give someone something for FREE without any expectation, they will lean forward & wait to give back to you.

Let me tell you a small incident. A couple of weeks back I was contacted by a project manager from a company named L&T Infotech. This gentleman was struggling with his Communication and Public Speaking Skills and he was looking for a practical solution. He called me to come to one of my courses, and we gave him the information he was looking for, the he immediately signed up for the course. Let’s say the course investment was X Rupees.

A couple weeks afterwards I got to train this person along with 14 other participants. And at the end of the Public Speaking Course in Bangalore, he came to hug me. It was a great moment. And I was so happy that I gave him one of my books “I Love Public Speaking” as a gift- for FREE!

He definitely didn’t expect it, however he appreciated it.

I forgot about it.

2 days afterwards, I got a call from this gentleman and he now wanted to hire me as his personal coach. He was so happy, and I told him about the investment and he immediately signed up next morning. The investment for the ONE-ON-ONE coaching with me was almost 15X (15 times more than the group class he came to).

He generously invested the money and we are still coaching till this date. He regularly invests in different products and services that I release. He a good friend and a client now.

This is “Law of Reciprocation” in action.

I gave him a simple book and he became my lifetime client.

- Share a powerful quote via a TEXT

- Send an appreciation email (appreciation is the unlimited form of our resources)

- Give someone a book

- Forward a nice article to someone

- In your next weekly meeting, print out a “How to become a better speaker/leader" article and give it to everyone. You have no imagination what this action will do for you! They are going to be your fans and that’s how you develop your personal brand

- Give someone some FREE suggestions

When you give something, don’t expect the favor back. However, I can tell you from my experience that more often than not, the favor comes back in a MUCH BIGGER VOLUME.
